Tosiya SUZUKI studied the recorder at the Sweelinck Concervatorium with Walter van Hauwe in Amsterdam. He specializes in performing contemporary music and working to extend the techniques and the possibilities of the recorder.

He worked with more than 100 composers, such as L.Cori, B.Ferneyhough, F.Filidei, F.Gardella, K.Harada, T.Hosokawa, S.Gotoh, H.Itoh, H.Parades, D.Rotaru, S.Sciarrino and J.Yuasa and premiered over 200 their works. As a soloist he performed at festivals including, Wien Modern, Tage für Neue Musik Zürich, Gaudeamus, Darmstadt, ISCM World Music Days, Festival d'Automne à Paris, Akiyoshidai, Takefu, Royaumont, Composium, Klangspuren, Tongyeong, Festival A Tempo, Melbourene Recital Centre Opening Festival, International New Music Week Bucharest, New Zealand Festival, China-Asia Music Week, Etching Festival, Summer Festival at Suntory Hall, La Biennale di Venezia (as Takefu Ensemble), Melos-Ethos,Sound Bridge and Uriticanti. He has had recitals and workshops in Europe, Russia, Turkey, USA (UCSD, UC Berkeley, Stanford), Venezuela, Asia and New Zealand. In ‘02 he has been the first lecturer for recorder at the Darmstadt. His solo CD [Tosiya Suzuki Recorder Recital] was awarded 'Musik & Ästhetik Interpretationspreis 2003' by der Gesellschaft für Musik und Ästhetike. He was awarded such as the Darmstadt Stipendien Preis, the Kranichstein Musikpreis, the Kenzo Nakajima Music Prize and the Keizo Saji Prize. The last few years he has been a guest teacher at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, the Nuremberg University of Music and the  Conservatorio Superior de Música de Aragón. He is a visiting professor at the Elisabeth University of Music.

アムステルダム音楽院卒業。リコーダーを花岡和生、W.ファン・ハウヴェに師事。リコーダーの可能性と技術の開拓に 取り組む。L.コーリ、B.ファーニホウ、F.フィリディ、F.ガルデッラ、後藤英、原田敬子、細川俊夫、伊藤弘之、野平一郎、H.パラデス、D.ロタル、S.シャリーノ、湯浅譲二といった作曲家たちと共同作業をおこない、彼等の作品を初演する。ウィーンモデルン、チューリッヒ新音楽の日、ガウデアムス(Amsterdam)、ダルムシュタット、ISCM世界音楽の日々(‘95,’00,’01,’02)、秋吉台、パリの秋、武生、ロワイヨモン(Voix Nouvelles)、コンポージアム、ヨーロッパ・アジア国際現代音楽祭(Kazan)、クランクシュプーレン(Schwaz)、トンヨン、フェスティバル・ア・テンポ(Caracas)、メルボルンR.C.オープニングフェスティバル、ルーマニア国際現代音楽祭、アジアーゴ音楽祭、サントリーサマーフェスティバル、中国-ASEAN音楽週間（南寧）、ニュージーランド・フェスティバル（Wellington）、Etching Festival（Auvillar,France）、Melos-Ethos （Bratislava）、Sound Bridge (マレーシア) 、Urticanti (Bari) 等の音楽祭にソリストとして参加。ヨーロッパ、アメリカ、アジア各地で現代奏法に関するワーク ショップやリサイタルを行い、アムステルダム音楽院、ウィーン国立音楽大学、ニュルンベルグ音楽大学、アラゴン高等音楽院等でゲスト講師として教える。’02年のダルムシュタット夏期講習会講師。東京都交響楽団、セントラル愛知交響楽団等と共演。また、京都府教育委員会の派遣講師「夢大使」として子供たちにもリコーダーを教え、京都府の各小学校だけでなく、国内や台湾の小中学校でも教える。ソロCD 「Tosiya Suzuki Recorder Recital」はドイツの音楽ジャーナル、音楽と美学協会よりMusic & Ästhetik Interpretationsprize 2003を受賞。他に、名古屋市民芸術祭賞、ダルムシュタット奨学生賞、クラーニッヒシュタイナー音楽賞、第24回中島健蔵音楽賞、第1回創造する伝統賞、第14回佐治敬三賞を受賞。エリザベト音楽大学客員教授。
